Rust-fix™ RK 500
- Solvent Borne System – this product is designed to be over-coated in 15
minutes. It is ideally suited on applications where surface preparation is
a problem and where blasting is either prohibitive expensive. It has been
widely used to prime pipework on
oil platforms in the North Sea.
One platform suffered from extreme weather conditions and a major coating
manufacturer’s system failed because of poor surface preparation after only
36 months to such an extent the pipe work required re-coating. Rust-fix™ RK 500 was used as a rust converter and primer as blasting was not possible
due to cost and long downtime associated with blasting. The pictures show
how well the recoated pipework looks after 18 months. It is ideally used
in conjunction with Chemco’s Epo-chem™ range of protective coatings as shown
in the pictures.
Rust-fix™ RK 500CP
- Water Borne System – this product is designed for areas where solvent
emission is a problem. It is designed for minimal surface preparation ST
3. It has been used as a primer converter in many internal vessel and pipe
linings where blasting is not practical and ventilation is difficult. It
is widely used in offshore platforms in the North Sea. This product has also
been successfully trialled by British Coal in working mines as a primer
converter.
Both systems require ST 3 surface
preparation with a theoretical coverage of between 10 – 14 sqm per ltr.
Typical surface preparation requires only wire brushing and the removal of
the loose surface rust.
