CASE STUDY
Chemical Tank Refurbishment
Client: Tanker Chartering Company
Industry: Marine
Scope: Chemical Tank Refurbishment
Date: April 2016
Location: Poland
Products: RB 300 Series
OVERVIEW
The original coating located in the chemical cargo tanks on-board the chemical tanker had failed.
As a result, the tanks were suffering from severe corrosion damage and had to be refurbished.
CHALLENGE
The existing failed coating had to be completely removed.
Traditional phenolic epoxies would not have the necessary chemical and temperature resistance required to handle this vessel’s cargo; therefore the new coating system had to provide full pH coverage.
SOLUTION
The cargo tanks were grit blasted to Sa 2½ standard.
This was followed by one stripe coat and two full coats of RB 364.
To complete the coating system, one topcoat of RB 300TC was applied.
OUTCOME
The Chemco system ensures that all tanks will have long term protection against high temperatures and chemicals covering the full pH range.
This fast curing system also allows for efficient application and quick return-to-service.
All the chemical cargo tanks were completed to class standard and certified accordingly.
BENEFITS
- Exceptional chemical and high temperature resistance
- Full pH protection (1 – 14)
- Long term corrosion protection
- Significantly reduced downtime
- Fast curing; allows quicker over-coating and quick back-in-service times
