CASE STUDY
Cruise Ship Effluent Tanks Refurbishment
OVERVIEW
As part of a wider maintenance project, the effluent tanks on board a large cruise vessel were selected for refurbishment.
Chemco was tasked with providing a coating system which could support time, cost and environmental savings.
CHALLENGE
There were certain hard-to-reach areas in the tanks, including many sharp edges, which required extra care when preparing and coating.
Furthermore, abrasive blasting was not to be utilised for this project.
SOLUTION
The surface was prepared using light abrading, before application was completed by brush and roller.
Chemco was able to provide a solvent-free, wet & rust tolerant coating solution:
First coat: RS 500P 100μm
Second coat: RA 500M 250μm
Third coat: RA 500M 250μm
OUTCOME
All surface preparation and coating works were completed within the given timeframe, with the vessel set for a return to service.
BENEFITS
• Solvent-free
• Wet & rust tolerant
• No grit blasting required
• Good chemical and abrasion resistance
• Long-term corrosion protection
• Reduced overall project cost and downtime
• Reduced Health & Safety risk and Fire Hazard
