CASE STUDY
Floating Pipeline Refurbishment
OVERVIEW
Sereant contacted MIPC bvba in July 2016 looking for a solution to their floating pipeline which required to be refurbished.
CHALLENGE
The project had to be completed within a 15 day shutdown period.
In some localised areas, the pipeline showed severe pitting which would have to be repaired.
Grit blasting was not permissible and application had to take place in high humidity (80-95%).
SOLUTION
The only solution available in the market, which could meet the strict deadline, was to utilise a unique combination of water jetting and a solvent-free, wet & rust tolerant coating solution.
The pipeline was prepared by water jetting to WJ-2 standard.
One primer coat of solvent-free, wet & rust tolerant epoxy RS 500P was then applied.
This was followed by one topcoat of solvent-free, wet tolerant epoxy RA 500M.
OUTCOME
The client received substantial time and cost savings as the project was completed 4 days earlier than initially anticipated; which was helped by the short drying time of the Chemco coatings.
BENEFITS
- Solvent-free
- Wet & rust tolerant
- No grit blasting
- No humidity or dew point restrictions
- No recoating limitations
- Additional paint jobs could take place simultaneously
- Quick back-in-service times
