CASE STUDY
Offshore Platform Legs
OVERVIEW
The platform legs of the Bekok B Platform were suffering from severe corrosion and required to be refurbished.
CHALLENGE
There could be no disruption to the live working platform and therefore grit blasting was not permissible. The coating application had to take place in high humidity and in continuously wet splash zones where there was a short time frame for application in between the tides.
SOLUTION
Water jetting was utilised as the surface preparation method. One coat of wet & rust tolerant Epo-chem™ RL 500PF was then applied, followed by one topcoat of highly chemical and UV resistant Epo-chem™ RC 500GTC.
OUTCOME
Substantial time and cost savings were achieved by utilising water jetting and Chemco’s wet & rust tolerant Epo-chem™ RL 500PF as the coating application could begin immediately upon completion of the surface preparation.
BENEFITS
• Wet & rust tolerant properties
• No disruption to live platform
• No grit blasting
• Minimal downtime
• Significantly reduced H&S and Fire Hazards
• No humidity or dew point restrictions
• Substantial time and cost savings
