CASE STUDY
Oil Tank Externals Refurbishment
OVERVIEW
The externals of a large oil tank in the UK required to be refurbished with a new coating system which could offer a minimum life expectancy of 16 years.
CHALLENGE
All surface preparation and coating application had to take place without any protection from the elements, with grit blasting not feasible during surface preparation.
All works took place within a limited timescale and in high humidity with the threat of rain.
SOLUTION
Chemco were able to offer a VOC compliant, wet and rust tolerant epoxy coating system which could be applied on a water-jetted surface.
One coat of RL 500PF was applied, followed by a topcoat of RN 500TC.
OUTCOME
The technical benefits offered by these systems ensured that the work was carried out on time, within budget and with no major delays.
BENEFITS
- VOC compliant, wet and rust tolerant primer/finish system
- No abrasive blasting required during surface preparation
- No humidity or dew point restrictions
- Flexibility in application method
- Reduced equipment requirements
- Reduced H&S concerns and Fire Hazard
- Long term corrosion protection and colour/UV stability
