CASE STUDY
Secondary Containment Bund Refurbishment
OVERVIEW
The bund area for a Sodium Hydroxide (5%) line is continuously wet from chemicals, water and steam splash and as a result has deteriorated.
CHALLENGE
Due to a strict project time schedule, there was not enough time allowed for the bund to dry. Therefore a coating system which could be applied on a wet surface was required.
SOLUTION
Water jetting was utilised as the surface preparation method. One coat of concrete primer Damp-crete™ RH 800 was then applied. This was followed to two coats of solvent-free, wet tolerant epoxy Epo-chem™ RA 500M.
OUTCOME
Significant time and cost savings were achieved by utilising this unique system. The entire project was completed in three days compared to the one week quoted to use conventional paint systems.
BENEFITS
• Solvent-free
• Wet tolerant
• Substantial time and cost savings
• No disruption to working facility
• No humidity or dew point restrictions
• Quick back-in-service times
