CASE STUDY
Sulphur Fuel Discharge Pipe Internals Repair
Client: Cruise Ship Owner
Industry: Marine
Scope: Sulphur Fuel Discharge Pipe Internals Refurbishment
Date: April 2017
Location:Wales
Products: RB 300
OVERVIEW
Nine of the scrubber tank’s sulphur fuel discharge pipes which were previously coated with a phenolic epoxy system had blistered, detached and corroded in several places and required to be replaced. This was caused by sulphur residues attacking the internal coating of the pipes.
CHALLENGE
The coating system had to be capable of handling the sulphur residue; therefore a highly chemical resistant vinyl ester coating system was chosen. There was also a limited time-frame for project completion.
SOLUTION
The internal surface of the pipes were grit blasted toSa 2½ standard. One stripe coat and one full coat of Chem-tect™ RB 300 was then applied. This was followed by a second stripe coat and second full coat of Chem-tect™ RB 300.
OUTCOME
The entire project was completed in 3 days, much quicker than would have been possible using conventional paint systems; due to the fast curing capabilities of the product. Substantial time and cost savings were achieved as a direct result of this.
BENEFITS
• Exceptional chemical resistance
• Excellent high temperature resistance
• Fast curing allowing quicker over-coating
• Full pH protection (1-14)
• Significantly reduced contract duration
