CASE STUDY
Thrusters Tunnel & A-Frame Refurbishment
OVERVIEW
Euroships required an anti-corrosion, abrasion and erosion resistant coating for their ‘A’ frame and bow thrusters tunnel. Chemco was able to provide an innovative solution with minimal surface preparation and working in adverse weather conditions.
CHALLENGE
Fast turn-around, no grit blasting and working in the rain.
SOLUTION
The shipyard used UHP water jetting to prepare the surface. Solvent-free, wet & rust tolerant Epo-chem™ RS 500P was then used in inclement weather conditions. The work was completed when all other paint operations had to stop. The areas of severe damage and metal loss were quickly filled with Ceram-chem™ RH 500 (ceramic filler) by trowel in one coat. Ceram-chem™ RP 500 (blue topcoat) was applied as a sealer/topcoat.
OUTCOME
The technical benefits offered by this system assured the client that the work was carried out on time, within budget and with no delays.
BENEFITS
• No grit blasting required
• Reduced cost of plant and equipment
• Application can be carried out in very high humidity or on wet substrate
