Funnel Refurbishment
OVERVIEW
The funnel on-board the Exhibition Vessel was suffering from extensive corrosion damage and required to be refurbished.
CHALLENGE
The client was looking for a system offering excellent UV and saltwater resistance. Grit blasting was not permissible; therefore an alternative surface preparation method had to be chosen. There was also a limited time-frame for completion of this project.
SOLUTION
Mechanical preparation was utilised as the surface preparation method. One coat of solvent-free, wet & rust tolerant Epo-chem™ RS 500P was applied as a
stripe coat and used to spot repair certain areas of the funnel suffering from corrosion damage. One topcoat of highly chemical and UV resistant epoxy acrylic Epo-chem™ RC 500GTC was then applied.
OUTCOME
Using mechanical preparation significantly reduced the overall duration and cost of this project. Chemco’s unique solution will offer long-term maintenance-free protection. The project was also carried out on time, with no major delays and to the satisfaction of all concerned.
