CASE STUDY
Deck Refurbishment – Offshore Platform
OVERVIEW
The decks on-board an offshore jack-up rig were suffering from heavy corrosion and wear & tear damage and required to be refurbished.
CHALLENGE
There could be no disruption to the live working jack-up rig and strict safety regulations had to be adhered to. Grit blasting was therefore not permissible; leaving water jetting and a solvent-free coating system as the only feasible option. The project also had to be carried out in high humidity.
SOLUTION
Water jetting was utilised as the surface preparation method. This was followed by one primer coat of solvent-free, wet & rust tolerant Epo-chem™ RS 500P and one topcoat of solvent-free, wet tolerant Epo-chem™ RA 500M.
OUTCOME
The work programme was completed on time, with no delays due to the environmental conditions and with no disruption to the working platform.
BENEFITS
• Solvent-free
• No grit blasting
• No humidity or dew point restrictions
• No operational shutdown
• Application can take place in any environmental conditions
• No disruption to other ongoing work
