CASE STUDY
Chemical Storage Tank Relining
OVERVIEW
A chemical storage tank at a waste handling facility was showing serious corrosion damage and was in urgent need of relining. The coating system required had to be able to handle various chemicals with a pH range from 4 – 10.
CHALLENGE
Finding a coating system capable of handling multiple chemicals at varying pH levels. Grit blasting was not permissible.
SOLUTION
The corroded areas were UHP blasted, thoroughly cleaned and decontaminated. The sound surfaces were high pressure washed. Upon completion of the surface preparation, one primer coat of solvent-free, wet & rust tolerant epoxy Epo-chem™ RS 500P was applied. This was followed by one topcoat of solvent-free, wet tolerant, glassflake epoxy Epo-chem™ RA 500M.
OUTCOME
The work was completed to the complete satisfaction of all concerned. The Chemco system has excellent adhesion to UHP blasted surfaces and will provide the chemical storage tank with long term corrosion protection.
BENEFITS
• Solvent-free
• No grit blasting
• Reduced H&S and Fire Precaution
• Reduced cost of plant and equipment
• No humidity or dew point restrictions
