CASE STUDY
Potable Water Tank Repair
OVERVIEW
Eleven of the hotel’s potable water tanks were generally very rusty and in poor condition. The existing bitumen had failed many years ago.
CHALLENGE
Working within a strict time frame (09:30 – 16:30) due to residents staying in the accommodation. Noise and dust levels also had to be kept to a minimum. Low temperature and working within confined spaces also added to the difficulty of this project.
SOLUTION
Manual preparation was selected as the surface preparation method. One primer coat of solvent-free, wet & rust tolerant Epo-chem™ RS 500P was applied first. This was followed by two topcoats of solvent-free, wet tolerant Epo-chem™ RA 500M.
OUTCOME
The work was completed within two weeks with all eleven tanks restored to “as good as new” condition. This resulted in the client receiving substantial cost savings as opposed to the purchase of new tanks. This system is NSF Certified for fresh drinking water applications.
BENEFITS
• Solvent-free
• Restored to “as good as new” condition
• Reduced H&S and Fire Precaution
• No grit blasting
• Substantial time and cost savings
