CASE STUDY
Sewage Tank Refurbishment
OVERVIEW
A sewage tank on-board a luxury superyacht had to be refurbished after the old coating was suffering from corrosion damage.
CHALLENGE
The sewage tank was located in a very confined space; therefore a solvent-free coating system was preferred due to H&S concerns. As the sewage tank is on-board a superyacht, the client was looking for the coating to be to a near perfect finish and also to last the lifetime of the ship.
SOLUTION
The substrate was grit blasted to Sa 2½. One stripe coat and one full coat of solvent-free, wet & rust tolerant epoxy Epo-chem™ RS 500P was then applied. This was followed by two stripe coats and two topcoats of solvent-free, wet tolerant, glassflake epoxy Epo-chem™ RA 500M.
OUTCOME
The Chemco coatings allowed quicker over-coating to take place; therefore a quick turnaround was achieved, allowing significant time and cost savings to be obtained.
BENEFITS
• Solvent-free
• Ideal for application in confined spaces
• No humidity or dew point restrictions
• Reduced H&S and Fire Hazard
• Substantial time and cost savings
• Long-term maintenance-free protection
